Werner Maokola

Werner Maokola, MD, is an evaluation officer for ICAP Tanzania. In this role, he is responsible for coordinating public health evaluations, including studies on prevention with positives, male circumcision for HIV prevention, optimal models of HIV care approaches in sub-Saharan Africa, and national outcomes of antiretroviral treatment.

Before joining ICAP, Dr. Werner worked as a project coordinator at Ifakara Health Institute in Tanzana. His project included evaluation of community effectiveness of Intermittent Preventive Treatment in Infants (IPTi) in Lindi and Mtwara regions, monitoring of severe diseases in children in Coast and Morogoro regions, improving neonatal lives in Southern Tanzania (INSIST) in Lindi and Mtwara regions, and INDEPTH  antimalarials effectiveness and safetysStudies (INESS) in Rufiji District.

Dr. Werner received his doctor of medicine degree (MD) from the University of Dar es Salaam and a master of science degree in tropical and infectious diseases (MSc Trop & ID) majoring in malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom.
