Henry Barigye

Henry Barigye, MD, chB, DTM&H, MMed, is a pediatric advisor for ICAP Tanzania. In this role, he provides technical support in pediatric HIV care and treatment, including early infant diagnosis.

Before joining ICAP, Henry was involved in pediatric HIV/AIDS-related work for more than 10 years. He worked as a project leader for maternal and child health research studies at the Medical Research Centre in Uganda, a pediatrician at The Mildmay Centre and Joint Clinical Research Centre, and a part-time lecturer at the Academic Alliance for Care and Prevention in Africa. He also worked as a consultant to the World Bank/ Government of Sierra Leone on rolling out pediatric antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Sierra Leone.

Since 2005, Dr. Barigye has been a member of the Steering Committee of Pediatric AIDS Treatment for Africa. Since 2004, he has served on the advisory panel for the HIV/AIDS electronic newsletter, HIV/AIDS in Practice. He is also a member of the End Points Review Committee for ARROW, a multi-centre, clinical trial of ART in children.

Dr. Barigye contributed to a pediatric palliative care publication titled A Clinical Guide to Supportive and Palliative Care for HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa, published by the Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa, 2006 edition (available on line).

Dr. Barigye holds bachelors and masters of medicines degree from Makerere University, and a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. He also completed a two-year CDC fellowship in HIV/AIDS at Makerere University Institute of Public Health.
