Gilbert Tene

Gilbert Tene, MD, is a pediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment advisor for ICAP Rwanda. In this role, he supports capacity-building activities for pediatric HIV/AIDS programs at district hospitals. He also works with Rwanda’s Treatment and Research AIDS Center in developing pediatric HIV/AIDS care policy, guidelines, and clinical support tools. Dr. Tene's work includes support for the development of the Pediatric HIV Care Model Center at Kigali and Butare University Teaching Hospitals and the development of a model for clinical mentorship in district hospitals in Rwanda.

Before joining ICAP, Dr. Tene piloted the first prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV in Cameroon through the Yaoundé Chantal BIYA Foundation. In Cameroon, he also helped to initiate and lead pediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs for six years. Dr. Tene has also led numerous trainings in PMTCT and pediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment.

Dr. Tene earned his medical doctorate and pediatrician specialization in Yaoundé. He was trained in pediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment at Hôpital Trousseau Paris, France.
