Beatriz da Costa Thome

Beatriz da Costa Thomé is a pediatric clinical advisor for ICAP-Mozambique. She is part of the staff of the Pediatric Day Hospital in Central Hospital in Maputo, and also works at the Maputo Military Day Hospital, both ICAP-supported hospitals.

In February 2005, Beatriz was part of the South-to-South Cooperation Program, a fellowship program between Brazil and ICAP-Mozambique. She subsequently served as a consultant for ICAP-Mozambique and joined the team full-time in September 2005.

Before joining ICAP, she provided clinical services at public hospitals in São Paulo, Brazil, where she obtained her MD and specialized in pediatrics. Beatriz also volunteered at an indigenous community in Brazil and also at a village in the Amazon Forest.

Beatriz’s interests include HIV/AIDS and pediatrics, cultural and social aspects of the disease, and the burden of extreme poverty in relation to maternal and child health.
