Milena Mello

Milena Mello is the training advisor to the Ministry of Health Department of Medical Assistance in Mozambique.

Trained in clinical psychology and psychoanalysis, Milena has worked as a clinical psychologist for ten years. In 1990, she began working with the NGO Federação de Obras Sociais (FOS) and then with the Brazilian Government in the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STI), HIV/AIDS, and intravenous drug use. She also worked with the São Paulo State Department of Health STI/AIDS Programme and later for the National STI/AIDS Programme in Brasilia.

Milena has extensive experience in training health professionals, developing educational strategies for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and capacity-building of public health program managers. She also participated in developing STD/AIDS prevention strategies for vulnerable populations, including drugs users, sex workers, and people living in poverty.

Milena earned a degree in psychology from the Catholic University in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1992. The following year, she specialized in medical psychology at the Clinical Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of the University in São Paulo.
