Assefa Alem

Assefa Alem, MD, is a care and treatment technical advisor for ICAP Ethiopia. His responsibilities include providing overall direction and technical support in the planning and implementation of voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) activities at ICAP-supported care and treatment sites.

Before joining ICAP, Dr. Assefa was head of the Division of Sexually Transmitted Infections/HIV/AIDS Program for the Family Guidance Association. He has also worked as a medical director and medical practitioner at different clinics.

Dr. Assefa earned a medical doctorate from Jimma University. He has taken part in trainings on VCT, management and evaluation of community-based HIV/AIDS programs, and integration of VCT services into reproductive health services.
