Ruth Mulima: A Focal of Her Community
The time came for me to share all that I had learned. I became one of the first Peer Educators at the Chelstone Clinic in Lusaka, Zambia. As a person living with HIV, I can relate to the experiences of other patients. I can serve as a focal point in my community for information and advice. As I speak with patients who have similar experiences, I feel stronger knowing I am not the only one facing these challenges. My ability to contribute to this community of patients keeps me going.

When I was first diagnosed with HIV, the patient-support group at the MTCT-Plus Initiative gave me strength. At group meetings, I shared my experiences and fears with others. I found that many of my peers were going through the same things and felt as frightened as I did. Together, we learned how to live positively.
