JOB TITLE: Technical Consultant

LOCATION: Location is subject to change in one of the four country offices in Sub-Sahara Africa (Swaziland, Lesotho, South Africa, and Zambia).


This consultancy requires strong technical skills as well as extensive product development and design experience.  The successful candidate will undertake the development of a variety of HIV products and tools, such as country and program specific training and education materials.  Many of the products developed will relate to HIV care and psychosocial aspects of HIV, however, the ideal consultant candidate will also have comprehensive technical expertise in HIV treatment, pediatric HIV, and HIV prevention including PMTCT.  The consultant will report to the ICAP New York program team and will also work closely with ICAP country teams in South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho and Zambia.


  • Guide and support the development or refinement of materials related to HIV care services including pediatric HIV care and treatment and PMTCT, including training and educational materials and guidelines.
  • Travel to program countries as needed to support tool/material development and implementation.
  • Facilitate small and large group discussions to identify product and design needs.
  • Conduct pilot trainings or training of ICAP staff with developed products.
  • Submit travel reports outlining key activities and recommendations.
  • Carry out other duties and responsibilities as defined in the scope of work.

  • HIV expertise, including acquisition, transmission, treatment, psychosocial and adherence support, pediatric HIV care and treatment and PMTCT
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships in challenging environments
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate technical information using culturally appropriate language
  • Master’s degree in public health or related degree
  • At least 4-5 years professional work experience in public health or related field
  • International work experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • High level of proficiency in relevant computer applications particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Must be willing to travel 60% of the time during consultancy period throughout South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho and Zambia.
