JOB TITLE: Communications Director
INSTITUTION: Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health - ICAP
LOCATION: New York City
JOB FUNCTION:
Candidate will work in the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs (ICAP), Mailman School of Public Health. Reporting to the ICAP Director, incumbent will be responsible for the strategic planning of ICAP communications initiatives with the goal of achieving high visibility and prominence in the global health, HIV community and assisting ICAPs leadership group in seeking funding sources. He/she will oversee the development and production of ICAPs technical and promotional materials, including providing oversight of all ICAP Web sites, the Center's newsletters, and other online/print publications. Incumbent will assist in positioning ICAP at local, national and international events and support communication activities by ICAP programs around the world. Incumbent will supervise the Communications Manager in the implementation of the communication strategy in terms of development of the content and manage the coordination and the production of all ICAP internal and external publications which might include annual reports, newsletters, e-mail employee newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, meeting reports, press releases and other material. He/she will assist with public relations, and the creation of communication strategies including the development of educational and communication materials in New York and provide technical guidance and support for ICAP country office staff. He/she will also perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of related experience.
- Expertise in graphics/design programs, including Adobe Creative Suite and Quark Xpress. Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally required (3 to 4 trips per year).
- Experience in supervision of staff.
- Comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously and interacting with a variety of people in communications, health and development fields.
- Excellent writing, interpersonal and organizational skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree in communications, public health or relevant field. Eight years of related experience in health communications.
- Familiarity with international public health and/or HIV/AIDS treatment programs.
- Three to five years of supervision/management experience.
